The fact that you came here and asked means there's only one real answer. #3

Strangely enough, it almost seems that #3 is unanimous. Which is rare that there's a consensus on this forum.

Since you're going to go your own, I highly suggest you document the entire process and post your progression. Because as we all know

Good luck

I understand that I can spend quite a bit on this project. Within reason, shouldn't be a problem.

So, my options:

1. I can buy a 2012 CVO, ready to roll. We all know those are in the mid-30's & have most all of the bells & whistles.

2. I've talked with a couple of shops that will take a stock bike, and do the complete make-over (paint, graphics, wheels, tires, chrome, sound systems, pipes, etc). One stop, out the door dressed up. Buying the bike + the customizing, still in the upper 20's, low-mid 30's.

3. Or, I can shop and get a steal / deal on a ' 10, ' 11, (or ' 12), stock, low miles, desparate seller maybe, then do some of the chrome myself, go from shop to shop for sound system paint, wheels, pipes, etc. Save a few bucks, much more time & effort.

Also thinking of the "other" issues like resale (if needed), warranty, time, etc.

Just like to pitch it out for various opinions, please. In some ways, any one of the three appeal to me.

Thanks for your input.
Take your new Street Glide to a Shriner and have him accessorize it…

If you can afford a CVO, buy it. The factory built 110 motor, the premium paint and the excessive chrome is easily worth the price of admission to an exclusive club. Are they unique? Compared to the rest of the HD line, yes. Even with 100,000 running around since inception, it's still special compared to the numbers turned out for the standard models. As far as adding or changing accessories on a CVO - I have a friend who has dumped at least another 2-3k into his 2011 SG CVO, so I call bulls**t on not being able to make it your own (if you have the money, of course).

Most (not all) of the people I encounter who can't see the value in a CVO, can't afford one anyway.

Get stock and upgrade yourself. CVO is too much $$$$$$$$. Your still going to need to upgrade the suspension, exhaust, intake plus some thing to make it your own.

#3 and from your list, other than paint (unless you are a painter) you can do it yourself. Hell even rattle can the paint and save yourself more $$$$$$.

A friend of mine has a Springer Softail. Bike was only about 9K more than the standard Softail. The cost to do the 110 engine and 260 rear tire conversion alone could cost you that much. If the CVO you're looking at has things done to it that you would do to a bike anyway, it may be the "cheaper" route to go. If you want to make it more "you" you can still do custom paint, change wheels, etc.
