Not only do they help with cold weather but I had a small rock bounce up one time and hit me in the leg. It hurt a little but I think it would have hurt more without the chaps on. It scuffed the leather up some so no telling what it might have done to jeans & the leg underneath.
everyone around here(including my wife) make fun of me when I wear mine but I agree they work and I will wear mine no matter what people say.. besides those people who make fun of me always tell me it's to cold to ride unless it's above 70 out.

Well that was me for 30+ years. Plus being in S. Texas there is less need for chaps. But after riding last year in Arkansas, the mornings were in the 40's so I wore thermals, from snowboarding, I was warm, no problem, but in the afternoon we ended up at the state rally, in the upper '70's and I couldn't shed the thermals, I was HOT. If only I had chaps, I could shed them and be comfortable.
So now I'm a gay biker wearing *** less chaps. My legs stay warm but my *** and crotch area is still cold. Next time I wear Jeans under them.

I wore chaps for years until I discovered leather pants.
With pants you have options.
On a cool day I sometimes just wear lightweight thermal underwear under the pants, and on cooler/cold days I wear the thermal underwear and jeans under the leather pants.
Due to the weight of the leather pants I wear thick suspenders and they work great!

for those of you in south/southeast, question for ya. i will be new to riding in fall/winter and was wondering if a pair of thermal underwear under jeans does the job for keeping legs warm? if so, can you still walk around off the bike wearing that setup without burning up? what kind/brand did you go with?
