Default Are Modifications Always A Good Thing ?

Nothing against modifications,I think some HD's are more of a blank canvas than others but are bikes always better after the mods,is onerider's dream bike ever anotherrider's nightmare ?

We'reusually supportive here,no one's going to tell a guy he spent 6 thousand bucks on mods and ended up with a fugly ride.

We start out paying a good bit of money for an HD before rolling out the door, there's other bikes that cost less, but we do it,in addition to thatmany of us spend a significant amountof cash on modifications.

Sort of like a guy falling in love with a beautiful woman, wanting to marry her because there's some intangible unique special qualities about her that the others don't have, but then encouragingher to get a boob job, hair color change etc, etc.

Doesn't Harley Davidson ever get it right from the start ? Leaving performance and comfortout of it,aren't there HD's that lookclose to perfect right out of the crate ?

What would those old pictures of Harleys from back in the 30's,40's,50's mean when we view them now if many of the bikes from back then were heavily customized ?

Yes, unless your wife finds out how much you really paid for them. Then they might not have seemed like such a good idea......

I agree with you, but it seems like some people think anything they buy and puton their bike automatically makes it look better. Sometimes less is better than too much. You see the same thing with pickup trucks with all the BS bolt on stuff for them.

I agree, WhenI was a kid I loved all the heavily modded cars, bikes whatever. Now,when I see an older machine, the closer to box stock it is, the more I respect it. As for me, I change my machines to my liking and save all the originial pieces for the future.

Having seen the pics of my Dad's and his buddies' bikes (1930s - 1940s) when I was growin' up, I'll chime in that none of 'em were stock. They all had doo-dads and gee-gaws on 'em. And the one guy in town who had an HD when I was a kid had his '55, '58, & '64 FLs tricked out with what was normal for the time - coon-tail, lights & slip rings on the wheels, extra fender guards, chrome covers on everything, etc.

The more things change, the more they stay the same.

A buddy is always putting new [sm=bling.gif] on his bike. It's getting so you can't be near it when it's sunny.[sm=insomnia.gif]

I usually need to back off a bit after letting him know that NASA shuttle pilots were complaining about the glare. [sm=escape.gif]
