Default Tents

I was wondering what kind of packable tent and were you got it. I saw Dennis Kirk has a couple that have stools with them and fit in a roll. Anyone that has used one of these or similar tents I'ld love to hear some opinions.
I'm not lookin' to hear for the inevitable guy that will say, "hey real men don't need a tent" Obviously anyone that says that has never tried to sleep outside without a tent in Minnesota.

If you want to travel light and don't need a lot of space I would recommend this tent.

I've used it in some torrential rain storms without a ground cloth and didn't get wet which since I don't camp when it's super cold is one of the most important features in a tent for me.

Harley has one for about $175, and it even has a "garage/bikeport" for the scooter. It packs up small too.

If you want a great tent w/good size, the Kelty 6-man is pretty awesome. About 7-8 lbs, fits 4 w/all kinds of room. They make a 4-person that is perfect for 2 and is just over 4lbs.

Go to campmor.com to see if they still offer the Keltys.

BigJ,

What tent depends onwhat you ride (and can pack) and how much you intend to use it.

We attend maybe 7-10 rally's a year and tent camp all of them. Picked up a 3-manColeman tent for around $60 at our local Sports Authority. Caught a sale on Coleman gear and Apline gear near the end of August. Plenty of ventilation, light enough and will hold up several years.

On my Heritage we pack: 2 sleeping bags, 2 Therma-rest air mattresses (highly recommend), 2 (bag type) camping arm chairs, collapsible cooler, change of clothes, change of shoes, rain jackets, flashlights, first-aid kit, camp towel, regular towel, 8' x 10' Ground cloth, misc personal items, tool kit and misc cleaning items.

Good to go for 2-3 days.

It might depend on if you're solo or 2-up and what else you need to pack. when solo, I use a Coleman 9' x 7' tent. Even with my Wide Glide, I was able to pack the tent, a small camp chair, sleeping bag, and air mattress on the luggage rack. A t-bag sat on the passenger seat and doubled as a back rest. With that and the saddlebags I packed enough for the trip to Sturgis and back from SoCal. My brother got one of those dinky littlebackpacking tentsand a little tripod stool and was not a happy camper. He ended up leaving it in Sturgis.

For 2-up trips, we either motel it or take the toy hauler. The SO doesn't want to sleep on the ground anymore, and I don't want to hear her whine anymore. Fortunately, there's only 1 or 2 of those a year, and she doesn't mind when I go on long weekend runsor such by myself.

I spend a lot of time in tents hiking and I believe that a good tent is everything.

For bike camping I would recomend theCabela's Predator Bivy it is free standing, meaning it will stand without staking. This is a good feature for quick side of the road set up for waiting out some weather. I have one that I plan to use myself.

I have a Timber Creek 7x7 two man tent I take to rallies with me. Bought it at Academy for less than $20. Weighs less than 5 lbs and doesn't take much room on the bike..
