Just a note for those that ~were~ reserved at the Wyndham Airport Hotel. They are closed as of next week. I read this on Trip Adviser and then later here. HD Accommodation Reservations are working on a solution. Apparently there were a number of people in there, and some other hotel is doing renovations during that time as well. Expedia? well the hotels are upwards of $200 a night. So fingers crossed that the HD Accommodation Reservation group sort something out for those affected. Too bad I didn't sort this out sooner. I have two tickets purchased for the event now too...

Hotels are filling up. What was available in my last post on this topic, is no longer available, with a few exceptions. There are still rooms in Hartford (40 minutes away) for under $100. Still rooms in Sheboygan (50 minutes away) for around $100. There are rooms in Port Washington but the prices have gone way up - 200+. The Holiday Inn Express that was available in Germantown (15 minutes) for $162 is now up over $300.

At this point I know of a few Mom and Pop places within an hour. If you're interested, PM me and I will inquire with them as to availability.

I haven't seen much information for people who enjoy camping.
For the 100th, I camped at the Riders Ranch at the Waukesha County Expo Center
For the 105th, I camped at Hog Haven at the Washington County Fair Park

Information about camping for the 110th is completely lacking on the HD/Hog website.

Thx for the heads up - I'll get on that.

I have also been born and raised in the Milwaukee area. There are a lot of great places to go, eat, drink, and…

Personally, my favorite dealer in the area is Wisconsin Harley Davidson.

They're located in Oconomowoc, and you'll never find better guys.

Feel free to PM me if you have any questions about anything.

Cool - thanks for the info. I wasn't aware of Wisconsin Harley Davidson and a lot of folks will probably be lodging not far from there.

It's good to see Milwaukee guys pitching in on the thread. The more good info we can generate for visitors the better. Milwaukee is a friendly big town.

Wisconsin HD used to be owned by Hal's. they sold to 3 guys before the 105th, and those 3 guys sold to a dealership family from Michigan about a year or so ago.

Their internal staff has never changed from when they had a dinky little shop on Main Street, meaning nobody has left - they just added "like-minded" people.

Think: Small town mentality, with a gorgeous big building. Nicest dealer building in the area. Seriously.

This was snipped from a Google search, but confirms what I thought.

There are several campgrounds in the Milwaukee area. These campgrounds can accommodate the RV camper to the rustic backwoods tent enthusiasts. One caution is to make early reservations since they do fill up as the hotel and motel room do during this annual event.

The closest campground is for RV's and can be found at the State Fair Park. This is an RV park within the city and has 70 full service hook ups, toilets, and showers. Don't expect scenic sites you will be next to a highway but the campground is very clean, has a friendly staff and the location cannot be beat. The Wisconsin State Fair RV Park is located off interstate 90 at the 84th street exit, follow the signs, through the state park entrance. Reservations only. Call 414-266-7035.

There are three state campgrounds within easy driving distance to the Summerfest grounds. Each of them will require you to have a state park admission permit which can be purchased either on-line or at the office when registering. All campground reservations for Wisconsin State Parks must be made through ReserveAmerica.Com

The first state facility is Bong Recreation Area which is located about forty miles south of Milwaukee. There are two campgrounds with 217 camp sites. Forty-five of them have electricity. There are flush toilets and showers. Bong was developed on an area designated for an Air force base so there are few trees today. It does offer beautiful prairies and a variety of recreational opportunities from hot air ballooning to swimming.

Second is the Southern Kettle Moraine area. You will find almost three hundred camp sites here from the very rustic in the Pinewoods and Whitewater campgrounds to the modern electric sites offered at Ottawa lakes. The Souther Kettle Moraine is famous for their mountain bike trails and miles of hiking trails. This area is about thirty-five miles west of Milwaukee on Interstate 90.

The third and closest state campground is Pike Lake. This thirty-two-site campground is located a short 22 miles north of Milwaukee. There are eleven electric sites and one disability site along with flush toilets and showers. This campground is kept impeccably clean as is the park. The sites offer a choice between wooded and sunny and all are fairly large. There is swimming, fishing, kayaking, hiking, and other recreational opportunities available within the park.

There are several private campgrounds in the area. The first is Country View in Mukwonago, WI, (262) 662-3654. This park offers one hundred and fifty-nine sites however be aware that most are full time rentals. The toilet and shower facilities are not very good. This park appears to cater to cater to long term leases and not overnight campers.

The second is Lazy Days Campground in West Bend, (262) a 675-6511.This campground is about thirty miles north of Milwaukee. This park also caters to the long term campers but they also offer a nice camping area for overnight campers. Do not expect to be on the lake but you will have a larger level site with shade, picnic table, and fire ring.

One other option for camping is to rent a camper and have it set up for you at one of these campgrounds. Many area rental agencies have this service. This would allow you to fly into Milwaukee's Mitchell Field, rent a car. Or many people ride their Harley's into Milwaukee, the home of Harley Davidson. You can arrange for a rental and set up of an RV through GETRV.COM.

I have camped at the Southern Kettle Moraine area and it's okay. It, and Pike Lake, have lakes to swim in and towns nearby. Both are about an hour from Milwaukee. And what more need be said about a state park called "Bong" . There is also a campground at Mauthe Lake and Harrington Beach (see search posted below). Mauthe is about an hour away. It's a nice ride actually, but even a nice 1 hour ride is a loooong ride after a day of fun. Plus the area is loaded full of deer. Harrington is right off I-43 and very nice. It's a pretty quick Interstate ride into Milwaukee. Port Washington, Grafton, and Saukeville are very nearby for goods and services.

Here is an awesome search for Wisconsin State Parks -

http://wisconsinstateparks.reserveam...mode=findOther

Even if you don't camp, some of these parks make a great day ride. Be aware - it's cooler near the lake. It can be 90 degrees just a few miles off the lake and 60 degrees lakeside. Smart Wisconsin riders are always prepared for quick changes in weather and temperature drops.

Additionally, and a bit off topic, but if you're coming in town for the 110th, YOU ABSOLUTELY MUST plan a ride to Holy Hill.

Amazing views from the church, and a great ride!

Not off topic at all! Every local should post up good local rides and Holy Hill is a big one.
