Well, it looks like my stupid is going to cause me a day or so in the hospital. My auto tune module wasn't working, so I called Chris at MGS to see if we could get it sorted out. The propane heater had it toasty in the garage, and I only ran the bike a few times for a few minutes. At least I thought it was just a few.
I went inside to get a cold beverage and got kinda woozy and nauseated. I shook it off and went back to the garage. By now Chris had gone home and the bike was still not right. I tinkered with it for a bit longer, all the while feeling like crap. I decided to call it a night and picked up the laptop to go inside. I walked over to turn the tunes off and collapsed. I was hurting, sick, and sure I was having a heart attack. I was scared and the only thing that saved me was the phone I had taken that allowed me to page the wife, who called 911.
And here I lay diagnosed with acute carbon monoxide poisoning. The doctor figures that my max was around 40ppm. After 4 hours on pure oxygen I was down to 26.
I know better and that's a first. Damn near a last too. Vent that garage.
What kind'a heater?.......get'cha 1 o' these an' hang your worry hat on'a wall.
been run'n 1 o' these for yrs out'na garage.....even dusty conditions.....no problems.(IE= woodwork'n machines.....etc...)
buddy and big buddy heaters have an auto shut off, plus a monitor on the wall is cheap insurance . it can sure sneak up on u, glad u made it through !!
It was more than likely the propane heater than the bike. Next time raise the door about 4" or so. Those heaters are great on new construction or large areas. But deadly in small sealed spaces.
Glad your OK
I installed a dedicated heater in my garage. Not too much $$ and vents out a chimney. O-so-nice for doing projects in the winter. No fumes at all. My propane heater has been sitting on a shelf ever since.
Get well soon. Buy a lottery ticket on your way home.
Having worked at a Nat gas utility since 1978 I have seen and heard of way more than I care about people and CO poisoning, you can try and get by with unvented gas burning devices, I won't.
I wouldn't depend on that $3 Chinese sensor they say will make it safe either.
At least buy a couple CO detectors, you should anyway.
