I have the sears jack and yes it leaks! I always jack it up until it sits on the stops. Yestarday was the first time in about 8months I used it and when I pulled it out from under my workbench there was a puddle.
Things break.....things leak.
Whatever is leaking on the Sears jack can probably
be replaced....possibly a seal.
But for 59 bucks and not remembering how long you had it,
you probably got good use of it.
I sold my red jack I had for three years to a guy
last week for $20 and bought a yellow one because it fit
under my bike. If it lasts three years, I'm happy.
Just because the bottle leaks does not mean other brand jack bottles wont.More than likley there all made in China.
You guys with the J&S jacks, are the hyd. bottles made in USA?
Same problem here....its about 2 years old, and I have to continuosly add haydrolic oil. I am loking for a new bottle jack to put in place of the one on the lift..Otherwise, it'll be a while before I can afford the one I really want.
If you do find a replacement bottle jack for the Sears red....PLEASE let US ALL know....because that is the weakest point on the jack and where I have found 99% of them fail.
I have two of the sears red's....one is over 4 years old, and the other one is like 6 months old. The 4 yo one is still working like a champ...and the new one looks like it will give the same service....if you treat them like it was a egg shell.....you need to go easy of these POS jacks.
Before the Spring I will be buying a Handy MC lift. Its the only way to go if you want a safe, easy, strong, professional product that will do the job right every time.
The fact that I have the pepboys, really uncool jack I have to hide if any other Harley riders come by, I dont have an opinion on the jack itself. I was wondering why couldn't you replace the bottle jack with a screw type auto jack? They lift five tons. use a rechargeable driver to raise it up. or even at wally world they have a scissor jack with an electric motor on it.
If you do find a replacement bottle jack for the Sears red....PLEASE let US ALL know....because that is the weakest point on the jack and where I have found 99% of them fail.
Wow, I didn't realize anyone was keeping global statistics on the failure points of all of the Sears Red jacks ever sold. But, you must be right? Otherwise, where would you get the data from to come and post such an exact and accurate figure? What's the percentage on the yellow jack?

Soon as Santa leaves, going with a J & S jack. Had a Dunwell 1700, and like a dumb *** sold it with my '02 E-Glide 2 years ago. I'd buy another Dunwell in a heartbeat, but they no longer build motorcycle jacks. PS : Just a little FYI, J & S no longer offers a 10% discount to H/D Forum members ,they discontinued it back in Oct..........figures ! [sm=smiley13.gif]
