It doesn't really seem like that big of a deal but, out of respect for others, you should have probably asked where you could leave your jacket. I wouldn't loose any sleep over it, but would keep it in mind in the future.
Hey, don't sweat it Denim. It was a genuine mistake, not like it was in the parking lot. I would have something to say to the guy's Supervisor though. That's no way to talk to paying customers. In addition, the dealer shouldn't leave peoples' property in a place where people can get access to it. What would happen if some dumb *** pushed it overor something? The more I think about it, the madder I get; I would definately talk to the manager, on both counts.
What you did wasn't bad, listen, if it was my bike and you folded your jacket neatly and placed it on my seat it wouldn't bother me a bit. I don't think it would bother most people. Now, usemy bike as a barka-lounger and coat rack, that would be different.
What you didn't do was bad. I would of jerked him up by his boot straps and the manager too. One for a service employee talking to me a cash paying customerthat way and the other for making me the cash paying customer that was just insulted and belittled wait an extra hour.
