Wow at the school I work at everyone thinks it is great that I ride to work. In fact a few others are starting to take a MSF class this spring so they will be able to ride in. I think they are missing the fact that the kids think it is great that you ride and in turn helps you teach them better.

I would have thought it was great to have a teacher that rode a motorcycle and paid more attention to him/her.
Unreal what some people think.

Even in the school setting..
I always say that I like to fly under the radar as opposed to on it.

If you are in a union, which many teachers are, you should check with your rep.
In this day and age though no one needs to be with out a job.
I heard that for each job out there are 80-90 applicants. FWIW.
Weigh your options carefully, before you make your choices.

Yes, they are most likely out of line and don't have a leg to stand on.

They also control your salary, to a degree your teacher ratings/evaluations, etc. and consequently can hurt you in more subtle ways.

Your choices seem pretty clear, comply, try to reason with them, Leave.

Faced with the same situation years ago, I fought and paid a high price for it, then ended up leaving a position that I loved because it became a never healing scab.

Plain fact of life that most games are rigged to favor those in power. It's the way that our society has evolved at all levels.

Choose your battles and fight the ones that are worth it to you. Almost impossible to fight them all.

I wonder if you rode a Honda/scooter would you have been called to the principal's office?

Sounds like the principal may be a little envious

I teach school in San Angelo, and cant imagine even having that conversation. Means of transportation is just what it is....who cares??!! The only thing you might be showing kids is how to conserve fuel?

That being said, it would probably be frowned upon if I wore a Harley shirt to work instead of regular attire.

Maybe you should quit wearing your sleeveless shirts to school and try to hide that HD tattoo.

I'd ask em' where it states that in the employee handbook and then tell them to get screwed.

Does the bike have Willie G. Skulls, naked ladies and assault weapons painted all over it and straight pipes? Short of something like that, I would ask the principle to put in writing his complaint about you legal and licenced mode of transportation choice so you can consider his opinion. They will never put it in writing and the matter will be dropped.
