Default Help with chaps

Can you tell me the pros or cons with wearing chaps. I live in jersey so we have our cold months. Usually wear jeans and long johns. Have heard the chaps are good for cold and safety. Basically been avoiding them cause they Remind me of the village people guy. Thanks

On cold days wear your long johns and chaps and you'll be nice and toasty. Don't forget to put on your jeans too. lol Chaps do help because they block the wind. Not to mention, they add more protection. As long as you don't wear them assless, I don't think anyone will mistake you with the Village People guy. lol

I think they look gay, and poser, or a bit of both. What I don't get, if they're for safety then what about your *** and hips? If you're sliding on the pavement you're going to want full leathers. If it rains the'll help keep your legs dry but your crotch is going to get wet, the would be uncomfortable.

I guess they'd help break the cold wind and protect your legs from bug splats. Personally I opted for a pair of leather pants, also known as chaps with the *** in.

Chaps work well especially if you ride to commute as they are easily removed when you arrive at work. I don't worry about those who think your posing ect. They are the poser as they actually give a **** what others think about what they are wearing. If you ride wear what works for you.

I don't like them, but lots of folks wear them because they do work in keeping your legs warm.

Default Chaps

I have a pair. They are indispensible. They go on in literally 45 seconds if you encounter cold weather, say, you go from the lowlands to the mountains. They come off even quicker. They fit in the saddlebags rolled up into a package no larger than a big loaf of bread. They block the wind and cold very well.

That abililty to easily and quickly put them on when it gets cold, and instantly take them off when it gets warmer is the clear benefit to them. Often, in the mountains, it's very cold in the morning, and gets warmer during the day, so leather pants would be too hot.

Don't worry about that "YMCA" song guy, if you attend a rally anywhere it's cold, you will see hundreds of Bros wearing them.

Upside is they eliminate the wind on your legs keeping your lower torso warmer during the colder months.

No real downside. Just be careful of what drinking establishment you wander into.

(Of course I'm just kidding)

A friend of mine said that chaps will keep your legs warm but your nads will freeze. Personally, if I had to buy chaps or pants, give me pants every time. I had some years ago but the crotch split. I had to reinforce them.

I've been wearing chaps before there were posers or the Village People. The up side is they are quick on and off, cut the wind and offer leg protection.
The down side, they let the "boys" freeze and in a get off, your butt will still get scraped up.
