Hi all, i need some advice on what harley in the model year 93-99 offers the best ride quality. I want to buy another harley for longer distance riding (i currently have a iron 883) but would like a model that has more suspension travel than the sportster as thats the only thing i find negative with the sporty, too firm on rough roads. I dont necessarily want a full dress bike as i prefer to keep weight down. i am opting for the 1340cc powered bike as the larger engines seem to have their share of issues and i have no harley dealer here so going with a proven power plant is best for me. I am 6'1(32 inseam) and have no issues with the riding position of the sportster, its just too firm on back roads. Strange as it may sound but the sportster is maybe the only one of my bikes that i rode over 175 miles in a day and no cramps, never even used the highway pegs, my **** was not so lucky though, felt fine until i stopped at the end of the ride, then it was hell LOL, i have since modified the stock seat(removed some padding at the rear) and thats cool now.
Look into FXR's and the Dyna FXDX's. Great handling bikes and you'll be able to do some decent touring with them, and double the 175 miles you've done on your iron. Also they're pretty easy to set up with bags for long rides. Good luck.
thanks for the input, i was leaning to the Dyna line. the bike i really love is the 06 anniversary Dyna that i heard 3500 were made. I changed my mind after reading about gear box problems(heard they drop into gear when neutral and idling), then something to do with failing oil pumps. I do my own repairs so i really could sort one out but really preferred not to go on the fixing/rebuilding route as i hardly have the time to fix my own stuff. Any one can elabourate on these issues?
Man, there is a sweet FXR that has been for sale for some time at a local shop. HD basically did one of the first CVO bikes using the FXR (although not officially called CVO). Don't know what you are looking to spend but these bikes might be a great choice.
