Default Sportster to Dyna Upgrade

I have a Sportster Iron, have upgraded it to the 1200cc and all the Stage I stuff. Bike is quick, fun to ride, and I love it.... but... looking for something more comfortable at higher speeds, less vibration, and overall smoother ride.

I am considering a Dyna Low Rider. I do not typically ride on interstates or busy city streets. Not my thing. I like back country roads and half to full day trips max.

Anybody with thoughts suggestions on this change.

Thanks

The difference between an Iron and a Low Rider will be an epiphany for you; there is not any comparison between the two bikes. Once you go Dyna, you won't never go back.

low rider is a good dyna, but without a true-track or such it will handle like crap. and forget about taking a passenger for a long ride, the passenger pegs are terrible (mounted on swingarm).

and there's the twin cam blues to consider.

other than that, it's a fun bike. rode one (FXDC) for 6 years, but now upgraded it to a XL1200CX

cheers.

I put about 20k miles on a Sportster Forty-Eight before I got my FXDLS. I would never go back to owning just a sportster. The sportster no doubt has its place, but if I had to choose only one, I'd take the Dyna without question. The Dyna is just a better, more capable all-around bike. I've taken it on a 5k road trip, commute on it, & drag pegs thru the canyons on it. Absolutely love the Dyna.

What in the actual hell is that? A medical condition? Will I find it in the DSM V?

Thanks... are you saying the Dyna will not be a quick and tight around turns as what my Sportster is? I'm assuming this would be true since its a bigger and heavier bike. Do you consider this just a trade off or does the Low Rider have some serious handling issues?

all dynas have handling issues (rear steer) due to rubber mounts and just one engine-to-frame stabilizer link. some people can live with that just fine (not me!). a true-track device will add the 2 missing links and fix all handling issues or possible issues on a dyna.

twin cam blues : compensator sprocket, hard as hell hot starting (stopping for gas was a fun experience!), those pesky cam chain tensioners, etc...

I've got an 02 Super Glide and a 05 Low Rider, both Dynas. The twin cam is a proven engine IMO, the Sportster has a proven engine with it's four cams. I had a 1200XLCH ('99) and enjoyed the bike but for two up riding it was a bit cramped. It buzzed like the devil, solid mounts. I put a big bore kit in the 02 and it served us well for touring, we now ride a '13 Road Glide Ultra with a 103TC, a super ride. Jumping from the SG to the L/R had a quick learning because the L/R has a different steering geometry, but extremely fun to ride. Have not heard of too many people trading back down to the Sportster.

Can't say much about the Sportster, other than i like them a lot, and have only ridden one once. But the Low Rider is great, and the way that I ride is pretty much the way that you have described.
