Default Tire Question

Hi All,

I have to get new tires for the bike before the spring on my 95 FXDL. I am also going to replace all the wheel beerings and maybe powder coat the wheels. The bike has Dunlops on it now, they were on it when I got the bike last year.I have a quote from my Indy for Metzler ME880 for $478.90 Installed ( tires and labour only) researching here and on the web there seems to be as many opinions on tires as there are on oil...lol I guess I am just looking for advice to see if these tires are good or should I stay with the Dunlops.
I also found this site www.americanmototire.com. they seem to have even better tire pricing and I was wondering if anyone ever bought form them.

Thanks

IMO - We make tradeoffs between tire life and traction. More traction= less life, more life = less traction. There are many tire suppliers out there promoting longer tire life and those I have tried always had less traction. We have such a small contact patch between our *** and the pavement, is it really worth saving a few bucks for longer tire life? IMO my Harley's were designed built and tested with Dunlops and I get my best ride traction when using the Dunlop's.

Also you will find that some shops will not install your tires purchased therough discount tire stores. In this situations I usually dismount and mount my own tires and take to the local shop to have assemblies balanced.

I like my Metzler's much better than the Dunlop's I had and doesn't seem the Dunlop's lasted any longer than the Meztler's. You'll get decent miles from them.

I remember reading on here a while back that some Metzler's are made in Germany, and others in South America. The German one's are supposed to better made. I have the German one's and I appropriately named the skinny front tire Colonel Klink, and the fat rear tire, Sergeant Shultz. Kidding, I don't name my tires....or do I? LOL

ME 880's are a huge improvement over stock Dunlops. A new set for my Sporty cost $250, delivered, at Rocky Mountain ATV.

Now that's funny!@!!!

I'm going to have to talk to my Indy and see if they have any issues installing them if I bring them to him

IMO Dunlops suck. The ME880s are a much better tire. They are the only ones I have been buying for a long time.

I switched from 402's to Dunlop E3's, they are great tires and they don't track on road cracks the way the 402's did. Great in the rain too. I will buy E3's again when these wear out.

My guess would be he won't have a problem installing tires you buy elsewhere. Most Indy's wouldn't. Good luck and ride safe!
