I use Comet scouring powder (the non-abrasive kind) and 3M scrubbing pad (the green ones). Wet the pad, put the Comet on the pad and rub on the nasty spot.
I also use this method to get the glue off the air cleaner cover after pealing off that ugly label that's on the top of it. There's always a glue residue that is really tough to get off. Comet, water and a scrubby pad work well and doesn't scratch.
I don't know of a non-abrasive Comet but Bar Keeper's Friend is non-abrasive. No way I would use any kind of Comet or a 3M pad on my chrome.
Topic covered many times. Easy off oven cleaner, protect all painted surfaces, motor, etc, then apply oven cleaner to chrome, let sit overnite, then sponge it off with H20
I used a Brillo pad, sprayed the pad with oven cleaner. Then rubbed the marks right off.
