Given the same bulb, does the 7" headlamp put out a significant amount of more light than the 5 3/4" headlamp? Since the bulb is the same wattage, the only difference is the reflector, but I have not lined up to bikes to check if there is a lot more light from the bigger housing.
I'm not sure, but I too considered going to a 7" on my FXSTC when I first got it.
They came with a sealed beam 35/55w. I ended up going with a H4 55/100w.
Of course the H4 was brighter, but the beam angle was tighter between low and high which allowed setting the low beam to shine out further than just to the tip of the front fender and high beam still set up to the correct height.
My FXSTC still has the stock 5 3/4" shell.
