the best rain gear ever, I wear one such wax cotton jacket each day on my commute to work.

Much better than any leather, anyway.
I stand corrected. I should have said affordable 100% cotton.

If you go to a stor called REI or look them up on line they have a water proofing liquid that you use for rain jackets and stuff like that. When i used to work outside i would throw in my Levi's with the annual water proof washing of my jackets, it would work pretty good and only cost about $6-10 bucks.
The only problem is you have to use the special wash they sell for the same price or after a few washes the waterproofing washes out. may be a good deal if you only wear those pants for riding and not wash after each use.
