You can buy chaps for a lot less. I paid roughly $90 for mine and they are good quality lined chaps.
Chaps will leave your crotch wet in the rain though. Rain pants are usually pull over, not zip on and don't offer the protection from the road that chaps do.
I actually have worn rain pants under my chaps for dual protection, and keeps the rain suit off the pipes.
$350 for chaps? Are they alligator skin? I picked up my chaps from Eastside Harley for $175, but Eagle Leather in Tacoma has 'em for $100 (last time I checked, at least). I'm looking for rainpants as well, but am planning to just pull them up over the chaps.
You can get good, long lasting chaps for around a hundred bucks. Keep in mind, chaps are good wind breakers but they offer no insulation against the cold.

I find they keep me warm down to the low 30's. Especially in the sun.
In the rain I wear Belstaff rain pants. Don't know about chaps though. These belstaff pants are kinda like ski pants but much more durable and very warm. Made in England. They know about rain over there. I would highly recommend them to you. Lets see is there an easy link available...http://www.belstaffusa.com/
