Will a blanket wear on fender paint?

I've done 500-mile trips that way, and the fender still looks new, but I would think it depends on the blanket you use, and the quality/durability of the finish on the fender. Mine was kind of a soft horse blanket similar to what you're describing, and a top shelf quality enamel.

a buddy bought a rental streetglide that had the 3m on the bags to protect it from scratching.It was wore and when we took it off it pulled some paint.That was with gentle heat in the same manner sign material is removed from truck doors.I dont know if it was bad paint or what but it lifted the clear when removed.I would say its the best option so far but not 100% without risk .

Why did he use heat to remove it? I just used a fingernail to get under it enough to raise a section I could grab.
