Default Will a blanket wear on fender paint?

I have a mexican blanket bedroll that I bungee to my apes, but I want to put my windshield back on and put the blanket on the back. It would be sitting directly on the rear fender behind the seat. Will a semi-rough (harsher than fleece but softer than canvas) blanket be enough to wear on the paint? This is not something I want to leave to trial and error.

It won't be the blanket as much as the dirt/grit between the blanket and fender.
Hide a softer cloth under the blanket that can't be seen.

it will wear it up[ like a scotch brite. go to a sign shop and get a chunk of 3m clear vinyl cut to size and affix it to your fender where your blanket would sit. it'll prevent any scouring of your paint.

I had to remove the 3M I had on the rear fender to re-apply another piece for a better position, (seat protection when slammed).
It was easy to remove and no damage to the stock paint job.
Applied correctly, it's not invisible but doesn't stand out either.

I didn't think about putting some vinyl under it. Good idea. One reason I want to put the roll there is because I don't have a luggage rack and figured if I needed a bag on the rear it would sit on top of the roll and keep the fender from getting rubbed, but the additional weight will probably mark the fender. I think the 3mm vinyl may be the way to go.

I'd think anything rubbing on paint over time would have some negative effects. But I normally don't put stuff on painted surfaces.

I feel the same way, but my Captain Itch Crotch Cooler touches my painted side covers (leather on paint) and so far no marks. I have a custom paint job, so I wonder if the reason the Crotch Cooler doesn't rub paint off (yet) is because it had a double shot of clear coat or something. Ironically, there are small, barely noticeable chips on my bags- so the paint job can't be THAT fantastic. I think I'll put the roll on there and get some 3mm vinyl on there when I can. If it rubs through, I may just have to convince my 6 to let me get it re-painted...

if you do decide to do a re-paint, talk to Joe at the powder pro * a forum sponser here about getting powder coating instead of paint. it will hold up to the rubbing alot better then paitn will.
