I've been wearing HD's flexible armor inserted into my jacket to protect my elbows and shoulders ever since a bad spill years ago that left my arm in a world of hurt. Admittingly, this armor doesn't appear like it could take much impact but I've rationalized its better than just leather. Last year I visited a half-dozen or so motorcycle shops and not one had any body armor to try on; it seems you have to order on-line and hope it fits and then play the return and re-try another one game. There's tons of motorcross armor for sale on the internet, however this makes one look like a stormtrooper and I question whether it is reasonably comfortable and if my jacket would even fit over top. Has anyone found a decent maker/supplier of body and leg armor? Does anyone do the full motorcross armor? If so, is it at least semi-comfortable for relaxed riding?
I've never used it but the dealership in Dallas had some on display. I looked at it, not knowing what it was and the salesgirl told me it was body armor. I had no idea.
I just looked at a jacket yesterday that looked like a normal black leather biker jacket but it had elbow pad inserts, and a back protector insert. Metro Detroit area.
I got my jacket from Fox creek and if you bought a jacket that had pockets for the armor you could buy the armor from fox creek as well. I got the jacket and the armor and the armor feels strong and of course the jacket is awesome.
All the armor I have came with the clothes. Elbows, shoulders and mid back on my two mesh textile jackets and in the knees and hips of my textile riding pants. None of my leather gear has any extra padding and I'm fine with that. Heavy and cumbersome enough w/o it and I feel the leather alone provides sufficient protection.
go to a dealer that sells sportbikes, even better a deal around a road race track. most will stock street gear. try it on there, or buy it on the web. I wear a black JOE ROCKET coat that has all the pads from my track days and I have at least a few ask about it every time i wear it. my gloves also zip onto the sleeves.

So the fit is good and doesn't bulk up the jacket? Does it stay in place and feel secure in the pockets? My last jacket had built in armor which was probably foam, like the OP said better than just leather but it didn't seem substantial. That Forcefield armor looks pretty dang good but I was concerned that it would bug me, feeling bulky and shifting around with the liner.

When I bought my leather jacket from LeatherUp it came with the shoulder and elbow armor. I took it out and put it in my mesh jacket that came with the pockets but no armor.

It does bulk up the jacket some but since the jacket is fitted to my exact shape thanks to them custom fitting every jacket to the customers measurement it still holds it shape and doesn't feel nearly as bulky as other armor jackets I have had in the past. The armor seem to stay put due to the fitting. Fox creek jackets are legendary just ask around the forum that's how I found out about them and the armor is one of the best armor sets you can buy.
