I've sanded the rear pipe down with 180 grit, hit it with a wire wheel and wire brush. I've removed about 90% of the pitted rust and all of the surface. I will be working on the front pipe soon.
First 3 pics are after 3 coats of VHT, the last 2 pics are the first and second coat.

Wow...that's a shame. In your area (close to Eastern shore) does your bike primarily stay outdoors, or inside? I'm guessing the elements aren't helping your situation (i.e. sea salt)..?? Definitely want to get that corrected.
