Digital Tech
Silly me just thought that, since I'm going to flash the ECU anyway with a PV map that matches my bike's configuration, I could just use a blank ECU. If I understand correctly, before I can do anything with the PV, I have to load the stock "flash" on the ECU before I integrate the still theoretical PV.
(Yeah. I know. I should have done my homework on this instead of just assuming about how the system works. I could have saved myself a couple of hundred dollars if I hadl)
At this point, I'm hopping mad. (Let me tell you, when a 220# man hops when he's angry, he can certainly set up one heck of a racket, especially on the house's hardwood floors.) You would think that this tool could be nothing more than an appropriate USB cable for the bike's digital access port that hooks up to a laptop running a special program with an intuitive user interface. And if you has assumed that, like I did, you would be wrong. Apparently, it's more involved than that. Or maybe HD is just trying to keep it proprietary so that your average backyard mechanic can't do this work.
But that's neither here nor there. I am now looking for an Indy in No Va that can flash my new ECU with the correct map. I know that I can take it to the dealership for this service, but I would rather give my cash to an Indy instead of to the dealership.
My question is, then, does anyone know of an Indy in No Va that has the tools and doesn't charge an arm and a leg for the service?
Ironically, SESPT software is made by the same company that makes our Mercury Marine software. The interfaces are almost identical.
I would say your going to have to donate to your local dealer...
Anyway, thanks for sharing your experience, WIDH55.
