I'm Happy with 5-10 mph over the limit, USUALLY they leave you alone.
Went w/o a citation for 20+ years and then bam, the recession, they started hittin the hiways hard lookin for that extra bit of revenue, and they dipped into my wallett a few times.
Hope those times are behind me....

Have you never been cruising along listening to the radio or just admiring the scenery and looked down to discover you're about 10 over the limit. Plus there are times when you just want to unwind your beast a bit. A good detector will save you sometimes but you shouldn't get complacent about it. And yes, if you get caught you pay the price.

What kind of mount are you making?.. Where are you mounting it too?. Im trying to find something that looks clean..somethign that was designed for the bike..

Guys i don't think this thread is about why you should/shouldn't use a detector. We all know a radar detector wont protect you if your all alone and the po-po uses laser. Of course your nabbed if your speeding, BUT i do like to have a detector when you have a few cars around you traveling 75-85 and you get that "bleep" from a mile away, and you CAN avoid a ticket...to each their own!

Radar detectors are legal in Texas....Besides that, we have speed limits as high as 85.... The point is all about the small town speed traps.....

Please let us know what brand and model, how you mount it, and any issues problems.....I know some of the detectors have small amplified speakers that you can mount almost anywhere....

Okay, some radar detector thoughts by someone who uses one. The Slipstreamer mount is simply the best. It mounts to the handlebar and costs about $30. The quick release mount allows the detector to be unplugged and removed with no tools in about 5 seconds and placed in your saddlebag for storage or when it rains. You can direct wire a 12v power wire to your fuse box. The detector can be attached with velcro to the slipstreamer mount and swapped between bikes or your car. Forget the buzzer or audio alert. You are not going to hear it in time(or at all) going down the road at highway speed. If you are hauling *** you are going to have your eyes on the road and not the detector so forget the visual alert also. What i wound up doing with the Escort Redline is using a small mono earbud from radio shack or cutting off one earbud of a MP3 player headset. It works to perfection and it catches your attention the instant it goes off. The Escort Redline is one of the best around and it has alerted to Ka band from 5 miles away and also to Laser when the the cops were shooting vehicles in front of me and another time on the other side of the interstate going the opposite direction. This has happened several different times. I know everyone says a radar detector won't alert to laser until you get hit with it, but my own experience tells me different, at least with the Escort Redline. I don't claim to know how it does it. One other thing, you have to combine radar detector use with a brain and fully research how police radar works or the detector is worse than none at all because it gives you a false sense of security. I've covered over 100,000 miles in the last few years using the Redline and an earlier Beltronics and have not got a ticket yet while cars blasting by me have gotten pulled over.
