I don't know how established craigslist is in your area, but it lists sites for:
adelaide
brisbane
cairns
canberra
darwin
gold coast
melbourne
newcastle, NSW
perth
sydney
tasmania
wollongong

I've found some smokin deals on CraigsList. Don't limit your searches to large cities either. A lot of good deals to be had in the small rural areas.

Craigslist is pretty good, having said that, I think I would use some type of escrow service for transactions, since you cannot pick the items up. Whats to prevent them from keeping your money and not sending the item?
