Cool Riding Without a Windshield

Gotta poll the audience for some opinions and advice on riding without a windshield. I understand the benefits of having a windshield as I have pretty much only ridden with one. When I have ridden without one, I found the wind blast to my face was overwhelming. Particularly I found it difficult to breath at highway speeds with the constant blast to the mouth and nostrils.

I understand there is a certain amount of "getting used to" when it comes to riding without and I don't want to have to ride with a full face helmet. Do bandanas help in this area? What other advice/suggestions do you all have?

Bandana, goggles, and earplugs all help.
Full face helmet would be the best help, However you kind of lose the whole experience.

If it's real cold (mid 30's and below) I run into the breathing problem but other than that the only thing that bugs me is wind in my eyes coming in from anound the sides of my glasses. The best thing I found for that is to wear glasses that are foam lined around the eye pieces. As far as the bandana helping or not the only thing you can do is get out and try it, some guys like them, I can's stand them.

If I am riding up to about 65 mph its great with half helmet and goggles. Over that and I prefer a full face or a windshield. I took a good sized bug up my right nostril this weekend and don't know what it was but it left a bad odor in my nose for a while and smarted pretty good when it hit.

First job on my previous bikes (Road King, Heritage, etc.) has been to discard the screen - I simply don't like the look. I also genuinely think that bikes handle better without a plastic sail.

All my life I've used an open face hemet (Currently a Bell Custom 500). I don't even think I've ever even tried on a full face helmet. I use a 'Buff' neck tube which I pull up over my nose if the weather is that bad.

Probably just the British bulldog spirit coming out of me!!!! (Now wearing the helmet ready for flak!).

I use a silk bandana cowboy style, good safety eyewear, and a do-rag when I'm in a free state.

Thanks for your input everyone. I feel where you're coming from GreenGoone. I took a Texas JuneBug at 45mph on one of my knuckles last summer and I thought it took my finger off. I can't imagine taking one up the nostril.
