Article about reliability of Harley and BMW vs. Japanese motorcycles.
Other issues presented are repair costs and satisfaction. Amazing that
something so highly rated as reliable gets a lower score in owner
satisfaction, but there it is.

I don't know, I think I'd prefer to have something that tickles my PP and needs a little attention from time to time as opposed to something that puts me to sleep but goes and goes.
Despite the fact I believe Consumer's Report is biased towards Japanese products, I find this report to be believable. I'm a little surprised the BMW's were less reliable than HD.
Actually, it says that the major repairs that Harleys and Beemers went through were normally like, less than 200 dollars to fix. Can something major go wrong that's cheap to fix? Sure. Might leave you stranded, but probably only costs a little. They said nothing about repair costs on Japanese bikes. So, either, they had no issues, or, consumer reports neglected to relay the cost of any repairs to us.
That does show bias. Not withstanding the fact that this is based on a user survey, instead of hard data. I doubt any of the manufacturers actually report their figures, but the amount of people participating in the survey, and who exactly they polled has a lot to do with it.

Well lets see, CR is technically part of the Media. Harley Davidson is American. It only makes sense they would be bias toward them.

Consumer Reports is a complete work of fiction. They claim to be unbiased, but they never release their "scientific" results for review. They are very brand biased, there are several examples of where the same product coming off the same line gets completely different results depending on the brand name on the product. Often times they cite subjective information like slow acceleration in an American vehicle, but good acceleration in a foreign branded vehicle, even though they come off the same assembly line with the same engine. Take it with a grain of salt and buy what you like.
