I bought a new Dyna WideGlide last week and see a problem . The mufflers sound like crap . So i bought a set of V-H. Short Shots in black .
I think it will look and sound better but have a question .
The Service Manager is telling me i don,t need to re-map but it would help ? He said it would run cooler (more gas) and run a little better .
What have you guys done and what did it cost in dollars and gas ?
I didn't consider a remap/tuner option until I got the pipes and air cleaner combo upgrade. i started w/ the pipes first and my bike still ran fine. some posts here said pipes alone don't warrant a remap or tuning.
after i upgraded the air cleaner, my bike was very sluggish. did the download first but was told the bike still runs lean. so i added the xieds. not sure if the ration affects the sound as well, but I'm under the impression i get a lower rumbly growl sound from my pipes after the tuners were installed and the more important part, i get better throttle response.
downside is that me mileage suffered a little. I got as high as 51 mpg w/ factory settings, now i get 46 mpg at best.
there's always side effects, but i do prefer the upgrade over stock.
I brought up changing pipes when I got my bike when it was new. I was told and have read here many times...full pipes require a better air cleaner and a tuner and deep pockets, which is why I still have a stock bike.

thx for the thought....that leads me to clarify that I got slip on's rather than full pipes so i didn't need to "tune" right away. appreciate your clarification.
You don't need to remap with just a muffler upgrade. Change to a full pipe and A/C and you will need to do the remap. I did the stage one upgrade on mine had to change the jets in the carb. Mine is a little on the rich side. You don't want you're engine running lean.
I did SE slip on and VO2 A/C, and my EFI bike runs perfectly w/out any problem whatsoever (like pops, hesitation, etc...).
Runs so well indeed, that even though I planned to get a richer map, I ended up keeping it as is.
