Default temp

Hey guys maybe a stupid question but here goes. I was riding home yesterday on my 05 Deluxe and noticed the seat was getting pretty hot on it. The engine is mostly chromed out and has stage 1 complete on it. I checked the engine oil temp gauge and it was around 225. This is my first Harley and still learning the entire thing. I try to stay away from stop and go traffic. Is this normal for temps on a bike?

Completely normal. The engine temperature will be affected by ambient temperature and air flow. Yesterday was a little warmer than usual but, I wouldn't sweat it. I'm guessing here that you have a thermostat on your oil dipstick? You also have to consider the accuracy of it.

Way back when, I always heard it's not good to chrome the barrels and heads. I can't see why it'd matter but that's what I heard.

225 is fine. just be sure that you change oil regularly and use a high quality synthetic oil.

knew a guy at a cadillac dealership and he stated the year that they started putting digital thermostats on the cars - they had more customer complaints than ever. Sometimes it is better not to know - just gives you something to worry about.

Chrome retains heat, it just won't shed it. My 05 gets pretty warm too, it's an EFI engine and they tend to run a little lean and when you open your intake, more air was added.

Roasted 'Nads are the norm in the Summer with Harley V-Twins, especially in stop-and-go traffic. Chrome don't even enter into it, more like Friday afternoons heading down to the Shore. Use a good synthetic oil, get a temp gauge, it'll give you a data point or two to ponder while your jewels are getting cooked.......
