Earthquake will knock em over too.

It was parked on the grass, I was standing 15 feet away. Had a little trembler, looked over at the bike and watched it fall over on the high side.

Stopped on a hill top somewhere in central Nevada to look at the view and see if the cop I'd been playing with was still on my tail; while running high speed never noticed the wind, but as soon as I stopped, felt like a big hand was pushing me over. All I could do was lay it down as gentle as I could. Crash bars worked great, didn't get a scratch anywhere, not even the bags or fairing. But I had to wait several minutes for a lull in the wind before I could pick the bike up (barely!), hit the starter and go before it blew over again. All the time I was wishing that cop would show up, but he didn't - we were the only vehicles for over a hundred miles on that 2 lane that day. Oh well, he was fun while it lasted.

The danger is increased when people lower the bikes without modifying the jiffy.

Anyway, very glad I installed crash-bars on mine, so if it happens I'll have no damage.

Mine was blown over in Sturgis one year , it does happen if a gust catches things right .

Yeah it can happen. Went on a poker run a year or 2 ago. When we pulled up to the final stop, the was this big blow up arch way kind of thing. The one side was tied off to a pole for the over hang on the building. The other side tied to this guys handle bar. The bike was parked on a slope perpendicular to it so it was almost standing straight up. When a buddy and I walked by, we saw how this was rigged up and just knew the blow up thing was going to pull that bike over. Sure enough not 10 minutes later, little gust of wind, and down she went. Kinda tore that bike up. I kind of felt bad for the guy, but then I didn't, he was the one that tied the stupid thing to his handle bars.

Of course I did but I was a little nervous he’d see memessin with his bike and think I did it??? When he showed up offered him a ride home due to the bent bars and it also knocked the carburetor off and smashed the air cleaner. No cover on it at the time but it didn’t leanmuch on the stand plus a pretty light bike. He said it never happened before…..sucks!

I must have missed the memo...The bike never fell over, because I didn't stop. Riding in Tuscon - Casa Grande area, it was an interesting ride. Only relief was a few seconds when I got next to a semi to pass. Lost my hat, and it was tied on too. That night, the news reported a McDonalds sign got blown over onto a car. The people in it were hurt.

Sportsters, especially with windshields are more likely to blow over than the bigger bikes.

I've never had a bike blown over before but some friends of ours were caught in a rain/wind storm here in Michigan and had to take cover under a bridge.
They said a strong gust of wind blew her bike (a Dyna) over and blew his (also a Dyna) several feet into a ditch.

I try to always park my bike with the kick-stand side facing away from the wind.
