Default Exhaust question

Im the proud new owner of a 2006 Dyna Low rider. While Im on leave, I decided to start doing the necessary preventative maintenance (Baker bearing, weld the stator rotor) on my bike. I took of the mufflers on it to do the ol' rebar and hammer exhaust mod and realized that the previous owner had punched a 1" hole in the muffler to the front cylinder but left the rear one in tact. I for the life of me can't understand why he did it to one but not the other. I searched the forum but could find any answers. Any insight?

Thats what I was thinking too. The only thing I can only think of is that he didnt want the rear cylinder running leaner/hotter than it already is??? I have no clue. I was just running it by yall to make sure it wasnt some trick or something that I didnt know about.

Not that I know of. But I certainly don't know it all. Just can't imagine why.

There might be a good reason to do that. As I understand, it has something to do with the exhaust crossover which can create reversion with the rear jug. The reversion screws up the O2 sensor in the rear pipe and can cause decel popping. This was usually found in touring models, and one fix was to install a freeze plug in the muffler. In fact, Zippers sells what they call a pop stopper which is just a freeze plug with a hole in the middle.
It usually happens with free-flow mufflers but maybe this was the way the previous owner dealt with a similar issue.

I don't know either but I had a '55 Ford Crown Victoria that I ran a straight pipe on one side and a glass pack on the other. It sounded pretty cool.

Well, I punched a hole in the other one and now it runs better and sounds better as well. Who knows.
