Default Hell froze over

Been riding since 1956 and always did my own work. Dealer only saw the bikes for warranty/recall work.

Well today ended 57 year streak. I was installing new tires on my 07 FXSTC and just as I was levering the last bit of bead over the rim I pinched the tube.

The 21" rim is only 2.75 inches wide. I was difficult to get the spoon in and very little room to be sure the tube wasn't there.

I realized that if I got a new tube the odds were likely that it would happen again. So, I put my tail between my legs and walked into the dealers service area and had them do it.

The charge for mounting and balancing was only $25 which was very low for a HD dealer. The tube with tax was $30. Most would have put a new tube in anyway on a 7 year old tire and tube.

I don't care for tubes and HD has done away with them. But I'm a few years late.

I did two other bikes through the winter for new tires but they were all tubeless and more normal width rims. Piece of cake.

My rep is ruined now. I have to go and tell my sons that I paid to have a tire changed. They may disown me.

No shame man I won't willing wrestle with a tire unless I'm in Bustedbutt Nowhere . For the price let the machine do it .

I always let the stealership do the tires. They are quick and clean about it. saves alot of hassle

You had a great run Champ. It's a record that'll never be broken, like Babe Ruth's home run...no wait. Like Lou Gehrig consecutive games...no, not the either. Oh well. WOO-HOO...57 years!

Time to hang it up and sell the Harley, old man. Swap it for a Hoveround.

Just pulling your chain. A 57 year streak is longer than most of the young whippersnappers on this forum have been breathing air! Great job.

I'd say you've earned the luxury of letting somebody else do the work for you. Sit back and watch some of the cute young girls selling the motorclothes while they deal with the headaches.

Go out to the garage, let all the air out of the tire, and re-fill it yourself.
Then say three "Hail *******", and all will be forgiven.
Go in peace, my son.
