I'd hope he consented to you asking this question...
But, if you meant 'concerned', then that's up to him I guess. Maybe he has disposable income and doesn't care for the bike much more than how fast he can get a 'good deal' on a trade in, much like yourself.
Or, if the bike means a little more to him than yours does, then he could get a service manual, a few tools, and learn how to tell you what you are missing as part of the completion to your biking experience...
(I could have elaborated on how to diagnose his oil consumption problem(s), but you probably would have screwed the message all to hell with your lack of concern over how to repair a perfectly good machine which you might consider nothing more than used up refuse to be passed on to some low life grease monkey like me. )

Is he using synthetic or conventional oil? My Honda VTX 1800 uses oil when I have synthetic AMSOIL in it. Every 1500 miles or so I have to put a full quart in. When I switch over to conventional oil it doesn't use a drop.
What year is his bike/how many miles? Im going through this now with my 05
Dealers will tell you that a quart in 1k is ok. But I call BS on that one. Thats a ton of oil going through 2 small cylinders..
My 05' super glide uses oil also Harley used different valve seals half way thru the year in 2005 and found out they didn't work, my bike burns oil but not a qt. to 1000 mi but i have put a qt. in to 2,500 mi the dealer told me about the seals after i brought it up to him.
my son-n-law has a later 2005 road king and don't burn oil

Engraved Rebellion: Inside Bundnerbike's Glam Rock II
Talked to my friend again today and he is using mobil 1 synthetic. The bike doesn't seem to be smoking and is black inside the exhausts. It is a 1995 Dyna with aprox 50,000 mi. I have owned 4 Harley's and have never had this problem. I had a 72 once that slung oil everywhere, but that was the chain (do you remember those days?). The most miles I ever put on one was about 70,000 and never had this problem.
