When I started riding in the '60s Bell helmets were some of the best on the market. I was just about to order a Bell pit boss today. However the sales guy told me that although they were good at one time they have focused on bycycle helmets and let the motorcycle line slide.
I also heard they are trying to pick up the slack and make a better motorcycle helmet lately.
So I'm looking for opinions. Are they a low quality lid?
I have my original Bell from 1972, and also a new Bell Custom 500.
They are similar in quality if you ask me. I am happy with the 500.
But for $99 (what I paid for the 500), I don't think you can expect very much quality wise anyway.
I just purchased a new Bell pit boss two weeks ago and could not be happier. Everything about it is first class. The wife is so impressed we just ordered her one yesterday.
Do a quick search. There was a thread just a few days ago about this same thing with about three pages of feedback.

I also had a Bell in the 60's. Last year I got a 500 in the same color as my old one (orange) and think it's a great helmet. I actually stopped wearing my 1/2 helmet once I got it. Comfortable and for the price I think it's a very good deal.
Only issue I had recently w/Bell FF helmet(s) was the shield wanting to come down all the time (wind, bump, etc.)...other than that - good solid lid...IMO.
