Fairly new to Harleys. Been riding sport touring bikes for years, but decided to try an Electra Glide and bought a 2012 last year. I've left it stock up until now.
So, can someone please explain exactly what a "Stage One" involves ? How much would it cost ? And does it make THAT much of a difference ? I'm not interested in making my bike any louder, but like everyone else, I wouldn't mind a bit more performance and having the engine run a bit cooler.
Stage 1 typically means,
Better breathing Pipes (slip ons),
better breathing air cleaner,
some fuel adjustment
Mine was
Vance and Hines Slip Ons $300
Screamin Eagle Air Cleaner(small round one) $139
Night Rider Xied $119
Made a nice difference in performance, would do it again in a heart beat
Also Better sounding, well worth the price of the pipes alone
Runs a lot cooler on my leg, since the slip ons removed the Cat Converter , worth the price by itself
I left the stock mufflers on my '04 Road King but installed a SE air cleaner and a PC5 from FuelMoto. It made a huge improvement. I initially installed a set of slipons but I didn't think the small increase in top end power was worth the additional noise. You may want to contact FuelMoto with your tuning questions.

Don't forget the DYNO tune once you slap on those performance parts. You can't simply expect to increase performance on a computerized system without doing some reprogramming.
You will improve performance and throttle response with stag 1. You can do it without changing the mufflers, most change them, I didn't. The only thing you lose is a little top end but low end and midrange power are improved. Also, lose the catalytic converters in the pipes, that will help with breathing and lower the heat. The mufflers on the cat bikes already breath better to make up for the restriction caused by the cats.
