Why do you ride your model HD?
I picked this model because I wanted a light weight big twin with twin shocks (traditional). I also didn't want spoke wheels or forwards. Add quality suspension, comfortable seat, engine mods, etc... with the proper setup you have a kick *** ride for any occasion.
I rode some Kings they had in the used bikes area and they just did not fit me. Bars were uncomfortable and sitting on top of the bike not in it.
My second choice was a Heritage and I wanted black (was not going to get into a color issue again).
They had one in the service area that had not even been placed on the floor yet, they threw a plate on it and let me take her out.
Love at first sight!! The bars were perfect, seat comfortable, exhaust was pathetic (that was quickly fixed).
I still wonder if I should have gotten the King, but it would have been a couple thousand more and then another couple thousand to make it comfortable for me.
I do miss the cruise control a bit but not enough to take the smile off my face.
If I could I would have a second "touring" bike, but my wife's says I can have a second bike over her dead body. I asked her when she was going and she will not tell me
I purchased a black, 2000 Ultra Classic and kept it until last fall and sold it with almost 80,000 miles on it.
I really liked that bike and with upgrades like a 1550 kit, a Baker DD6 tranny, the Hyd-Cam Update Kit, lots of chrome goodies, and looking may years newer than it really was, made it very easy to sell.
I immediately replaced it with a new 2013 CVO S/E Ultra and I know that I will also have, and ride it for many years and miles.
An although I am really a "touring" style rider, for the short runs on hot summer days, I'll take my '98 Anniversary Edition Heritage Softail Springer out for a ride.
