Never ridden one, but they are very cool looking bikes. My wife and I were at the dealership last weekend and I was trying to convince her she needed one. A 72 would look really nice parked next to my Super Glide.

I've said it on here before, my Wife' '04 1200 Custom is a blast to ride, and with a seat switch and windshield she's ridden 450 miles in a day with no complaints. I've tried to get her on a bigger bike, but She just loves that bike! I like it too. (pics below)

Here's her bike, wide tripple trees, Z bars, custom paint set, Road Winder wheels, Heavy Breather, SE Ignition, 2:1 exhaust, and She loves chrome!!!

Those 72s look great guys. Those of you who had big twins also, is the Sporster motor noisier (more valve noise etc) than the TC96" or was my rental just a noisy example? As I said it wasn't high miles or abused that I could tell.

Almost decided to sell my Dyna and just jump on the fun wagon yesterday. Still sleeping on it though...do love my FB, bulletproof bike that can do anything....my smile was just a little bigger on the 72.

The more I see this bike, the more I want one. It drips nostalgia!

I have three versions of the Sportster's. The 11- XL1200L, 09- XR1200 and the 08 - Buell XB12XT.

I learned a long time ago that they are agile, fast and a blast to ride. Exceptionally reliable over the long haul also.

I get 50 to 55 mpg with them and plan to take the XL1200 to Sturgis for a 2,000 mile ride this year. With the 4.5 gallon tank and over 50 mpg it will not need any more stops than my touring bikes. 150 miles is about right to fill one tank and empty the other, walk around and have a sport drink. Then zoom down the I-90 at 75 +.

I did 9,000 miles in 14 days in 09 on the Buell during the Alaska trip. I'm 6'3" and 220. No problem with seat comfort. But the XL1200L had the seat for the little folks to touch the ground. I did have to change it to a big boy seat.

I love the 72. I think it is one of the best looking stock Harley's ever. It is the only other Harley outside softails I would buy.

Oh yeah the XL motor is a loud one. If it sounds like a pissed off sewing machine it's definitely normal. I have a Thunderheader on my XLN and you can still hear the motor noise. I wouldn't have it any other way though.

I suppose now that if think about it the motor noise is a bit louder on my Sporty versus the previous Big twins that I've owned (96 Road King and 103 Wide Glide being the most recent). Once you're riding it for any length of time though you don't really notice the engine clatter, especially once you switch out the stock pipes. The Bassani pipes on my Sporty drown out any upper engine noise.

I also like the look of the 72 but that small gas tank would get on my nerves real quick lol
