Left the house this morning about 8am in the pouring rain to go on a PGR mission about 170 miles away.
Sun, Rain, Hail, gusty wind and temps in the low 40's... 10 miles in to it, I felt like I was making a huge mistake.
I didn't see one other bike the entire ride there.
The air was clean, the animals were everywhere, and the scenery was perfect!
I got to the meeting site, and found that I wasn't the only one to brave the weather.
There was another bike in the parking lot.
Shortly thereafter, 2 more bikes showed up. 4 was it, which made it even more important that I had gone.
We had a great presence even with the lack of bikes, several people with flags. In the middle of the service, the sun came out, the wind picked up all the flags, and for just a few minutes, it seemed that PFC Jessica Rich was standing there with us. This by far was the most emotional mission I have been on.
The VFW/Veterans Memorial Hall had hot soup/sandwiches and coffee for us, which was very much appreciated after spending so much time in the rain and hail.
It seemed like the Motorcycle god's were pleased as well, because they provided me a great sunny spot surrounded by gloom for nearly the entire ride home. Just as I thought I was heading into the rain, the road would turn and stay in the sun.
Aside from the somber reason for the ride, it was a great day.
Thanks for listening. Nobody is home, I'm all hyped up and needed to tell someone!
Sounds like a 'good' day rain and all. We had a soldiers funeral right here in our small town in western PA too and the turn out was light due to the cold but the presence was felt (and humbling)!
