HD Chat - 'Biker' Definition
- By the way, I can be a dick sometimes - so sorry if I **** you off.
----
So, there are a lot of threads here about 'bikers vs. not bikers', or 'RUB's vs. bikers', etc...The 'horse has been beaten', and I have really tried to avoid getting in the middle of the debate. - After reading the post by 'Hacksaw', as well as the replies, I thought I would chime-in with my $0.02.
Anyone who is on this forum that actually owns a motorcycle or is looking to buy a motorcycle again (implying that they have owned one before) is a rider. We are all riders. Some have a few miles under their belt, while others of us have ten's of thousands behind us. We share a interest (or passion) for the freedom of being on two wheels. By my definition, a rider is not someone who wears a specific type of clothes or rides a certain kind of motorcycle - he or she is just someone who likes to be out there 'in the wind'. Honda or Harley, old or new, they are all bikes...they all require riders. Thats what most of us are.
The 'biker' nametag that seems to be a constant issue of debate here is nothing more than a bunch of bullsh1t... I say this because the 'biker' as defined by the far majority of (posting) members here is based on what someone wears, how long they have been riding, or what kind of beer they drink (kidding about the beer). If you look thru the posts, you will see that very few (if any) have any 'real' content. They are simply idle chatter about nothing. If you are a 'biker', you know you are, and silly debates over someone else seeing you as such are usless. If you think you are a 'biker' and have nothing better to do than get on-line and try to convince others that you are...Then you are most likely nothing more than a 'rider'.Now, understand, there is nothing wrong with being a 'rider', but don't try to convince yourself(or me) that wearing a 'doo-rag', carrying a 'chain wallet', or wearing a leather jacket that says Harley Davidson on it qualifies you as a 'biker'.
Now, having said that, I do find the little debates entertaining...BUT, Ithink that the idle arguements don't necessarily fit into the 'General Harley Davidson Chat' section of the forum.'RUB's vs. Bikers', 'What kinda shoes do you wear', etc...should beconfined to the off-topic forum unless you areasking a specific question. If you justwanna post crap to keep yourself fromgetting bored - do it in the off-topic section so thatit doesn't flood the 'real'sections. - Take a look at the number of posts in the 'General HD Chat' section - most are silly BS that should be placedelsewhere...

Additionally, if you aren't going to'learn' anything from the other members here, why are you bothering? There are more than a few people here that seem to want nothing more than to win the 'how many posts' contest...The same questions are asked time and time again (oftentimes)by people who have been forum members for long enough that they should already know the answers. But, rather than searching, they want someone to spoonfeed them the stuff that they could find on their own. (see any of the WooHoo, I got another star posts). Again, all that does is make it harder forothers to find useful information.
I know that the weather sucksin most of the country, and thatlots of people are anxious to get out and ride - but some of us are really trying to get useful information and (I for one) am getting frustrated with the repetative BS threads that seem to take away from 'real' questions...
Just my $0.02.
here we go again!!!
I'm really not trying to start another BS thread here...I am just frustrated that when I ask a 'real' question (in two different sections), I get no replies. But If you have a thread about 'RUBs' or wanna aske what chrome part your dealer should install for you next (some of us actually know how to work on our own stuff) - there are 500 responses.
Kinda frustrating.
here we go again!!!
And, the generalchat is like a bar/meeting place. Very entertaining! Thats why I donated money to the sight.

Thats how I look at it anyways...
All that rub/poser stuff can be pretty entertaining.
Tactical1...

You mean postings like this......... https://www.hdforums.com/m_1238444/tm.htm
My grandpappy told me "those that live in glass houses shouldn't throw stones".
This is the General Harley-Davidson Forum, and as such will have general topics discussed, that are pretty much like a bunch of guys sitting around BS'ing.
You really never know where a topic will go, sometimes it can be informative, sometimes it can be jovial, and sometimes it can be a real P.I.A.
But, its a topic, and maybe it's something you already know, or something you can learn from, or something you can just share with another.
What makes it realwierd, is when folks actually think, they can tell others, what to think, talk about, or is acceptable.
Thats when it gets to the point of an arguement.
My feelings about the subject...."once you have walked a few miles in my shoes, then you might be able to tell me what to do, until then, ........................."
And as far as an answer to a "real question", that search button go a long way in that department. And honestly what may be a "real question" to one person, could seem like "BS to be muddled through" to another.
