So I received my HOG membership package in the mail yesterday. Vest patch is nice. Black card is pretty. $100 annual tow benefit is kind of measly (gets cut in half once you start paying $45 membership next year). Insurance rates are comparable to what I already have. Not an AT&T customer. Road atlas might come in handy. All that in mind are there benefits or perks I might be missing? $45/yr. isn't that big a deal so just wondering what other members are thinking? Thanks.
Yeah the biggest perk is that you can sew a patch on your vest. Then park next to all your hog buddies. I kept the membership for a few years till I realized there was better towing insurance. The atlas isn't that good. Some people enjoy the comradeship of other Hog members. I didn't.
If you attend the HOG chapter meetings at your dealer, you have to keep your membership current(i.e. paid). At my dealer, you get 15% off at the dealer if you are a member.
I also got the free membership last year. Mine just expired. I got a letter from my local HOG chapter saying I can't attend any meetings if I don't pay up and I won't get my new one-year pin. Please, no !
I don't care enough about it to renew. The people are friendly enough but the meetings and group rides don't interest me much. The meeting I went to was just talk about the next pot luck or planning a ride to Country Kitchen Buffet the day they have all you can eat crab legs.

Never been to a meeting but I like the magazine. Just renewed for year two and I don't see anything about tow benefits being decreased. Thinking about spending the $20 for the tow upgrade but will compare with my insurance first. I like the best western perks too.
Road America offers a much better tow package. I till renew my HOG membership for the magazines and discounts. Some dealers offer 5-10% off to national members. Just gotta ask
I was excited about it when I go my bike. When I realized the members pretty much stayed with each other, I lost the desire and knew I'd never fit in. That and I found out that I'd rather ride solo. I did the club thing in the 70s and it was fun then. Not now. I know I won't renew it.
As far as tow benefits all I meant was once you start paying $45 per year, you may as well deduct that from the $100 max they allow you per tow...once a year. In other words you paid $45 for a $100 benefit leaving you w/ $55 remaining. Most tows cost well over $100 anyway.
Problem is my insurance (Am. Family) doesn't include a tow benefit at all for motorcycles. I need to find a cheap supplemental tow policy somewhere. Not that I expect to need it w/ a new Harley, but I didn't expect to need it w/ my VTX either but sure enough....

Ahh, I see you're point. Again, I think that $20 upgrade may be worth it. Unlimited tows and no price cap.
I just got off the phone with my insurance provider (Geico), their roadside assistance provides unlimited towing and 1st hour of labor charges for only $7 more a year. Don't know why I wasn't signed up already, but I am now. That beats HOG all to hell.

Ok. Well thanks for the replies. Seems like it's not really necessary unless you want to meet up w/ other riders which I don't really have time for anyway. Group rides have never panned out for me as the rest of the world is off while I'm working. Discounts would be nice, but I probably won't spend enough to make that pay off. I'll prob just ride out the free year and then bag it. Thanks again.
I like the patches, pins & magazines but hardly worth the $$
When I first got it i used to get a discount at the local dealer but that don't happen anymore. All they care about is new customers so I been thinking about not renewing.
