I am trying to sell my 2006 FXDWGI. I got this curious email. Take note I am in Texas near the Eagle Ford Shale, so people being out of town is a pretty common occurrence.
This is the email I was sent:
Thanks for your mail.i will appreciate more pictures..I am ready to buy it now for my son as a surprise promise gift,And due to the nature of my work, phone calls making and visiting of website are restricted but i squeezed out time to check this advert and send you an email regarding it. i would be glad to pay for it as soon as possible though i will not be available to come for an inspection due to my tight schedule.Kindly get back to me with the following questions below:
1) Are you the Owner?
2) Pick up Location?
3) Your PayPal Email ID to effect the payment
4)what is The final Price
I would be glad to make the payment immediately through PayPal so kindly get back to me with your PayPal ID. You need not to worry yourself about title transfer and shipment,i will instruct the shipping company to handle that therefore in order to complete the
transaction do get back to me with your PayPal ID and total cost so that I can make the payment asap. I will be waiting for your reply!
Thanks..
And my reply:
I am the owner. I can't do Paypal because of potential fraud. You can mail me a check, and when it clears, then I can release the bike. This is to protect both myself and you. I can send more photos of the bike if you are still interested.
1) I am the owner
2) I will have the Harley-Davidson dealership in Corpus Christi act as a middle man to sign over transfer so there is no chance of problems.
3) I need a check mailed if you are going to do that.
4) $9,500
And his reply:
Am Satisfied with the price I will be buying this for the price you have listed it for.Payment will be sent using PayPal and i will handle the PayPal surcharge as well.I will arrange with someone to have this picked up for your location once i have paid as i am out of town at the moment. In the meantime, can you send me more pictures and i will be glad if you can set up an account with PayPal is very easy and safe just log on tohttp://www.paypal.com/ and set up the account PayPal is the only online payment company that i trust i have been using it for for the past 7 years and i have never have problem with them.i will be glad if you can get back to me asap so i can know if you are still interested in this deal. i can assure you that am a faithful person and this transaction will be a legit transaction.pls kindly get back to me if you are interested in this deal,Thanks
Just something about this doesn't sit right with me. I presented an avenue that is fairly reasonable to buy this. What do you all think?
It's a scam - do NOT take a check, not even a Cashiers Check or money order. Insist on cash only on a face to face basis. If it's a Craig's list response, the danger is doubled and the minute you say face to face cash only he will head for the hills and you will not hear from him again. I had the same response, almost verbatim for a Suzuki Boulevard I listed last year on Craig's list. Don't get sucked into it - he is not a legitimate buyer. You might also consider sending his reply to Craig's list and getting their fraud team involved in it.

First off...WELCOME...second, to answer your question, notice how the person seems really "concerned" about letting you know they're not a scammer (when they are). Just make it easy and deal "locally" with your bike sale. I've had "0" problems with local CL sales.
