I'm also in need of a new helmet and am seriously thinking of a FF. I went to the local Cycle Gear today and tried on a Shoei Neotec. Coming from a HD half it was quite a change and sticker shock! Plus I need a size small they didn't have in stock so I'm still not sure how it would actually feel.
Put the helmet on...wear it in the shop for about 30 minutes. If you take it off and observe a red spot in the middle of your forehead, it's not shaped for you. I know it sucks, but taking your time to invest in a helmet will ultimately save you a lot of money.

OK...I get that and I plan to try on as many as I can. But I'd still like to know how you determine what shape head you have. It might help to eliminate some models ahead of time if I know my head isn't the right shape.

This site has good reviews and give indication of what the head shape is. My head fits on the HJC so I pretty much will always buy that brand. Plus its a good value at the price.

I get what you mean. I dont know if my head is oval, oblong or square. So I finally found one that fit and looked it up on Webworld and then it indicated its was narrow/neutral so researched a bit on those brands that fit the shape.

Know Your Head Shape
Although human heads have an infinite variety of shapes and sizes, most of us fall into these two categories:

very narrow, 'long oval' head shapes
very wide 'round' earth head shapes
Some of us may have a combination of these two head shapes. It's possible to have combinations of these shapes in an infinite number of variations.

Fortunately many motorcycle helmets are manufactured with internal shapes that roughly match these "oval" or "round" shaped head categories.

Different Head Shapes
Below are illustration of exaggerated human head shapes that is viewed from front or back of the head

Oval - sometimes known as "long oval", the most common head shape
Round - the round shaped head is wider in the middle, approximately near the temples
Egg - wider at the top and narrower at the bottom

What fits others may not fit you. FF helmet fit varies by head shape as well as size which just is a measurement of head circumference. Shoei for instance are great helmets but only fit those with a rounder head shape as does HJC. Bell usually fit a more oval head shape better. I would suggest trying on multiple helmets. You want a very tight fit but without pressure points.
