I should also add. HD advertising doesn't work on me. I personally cant stand what they think their image is.
How ironic. My 26 year old daughter said the same thing ...the ads don't connect with her. Harley should hire the ad agency that handles Monster Energy Drink and let them focus on younger buyers.
You are looking at it wrong. I did buy a ticket to the game (bike)but I'm not dressing up like a cheese head..
Just because I like their bikes doesn't mean I have to fit into their image of a rider. If I don't like their clothes and merchandise does that mean I can't like their bikes? No. Its all overpriced junk anyway. The style of almost everything they sell is majorly cheesy. It looks like 50 year old women designed it. Crappy flames, tribal, shiny **** everywhere. It seems to me they try way to hard to impress the nobody's. Because they know damn good and well most long time riders don't buy into it. They know their market. And I'm not part of that market.
I was primarily referring to these two statements he made.
1. Its V-Rod ----- has been well-received
2. Considering Harley-Davidsons ------- top-tier quality.
By some of the recent posts, some do not agree. Nobody wants a Vrod and overall quality of the bikes is sub-par.
As for me I like the Muscle and the quality of the 2 Hogs Iv'e owned has been as good or better than anything else (bike) I had in the past.
Duck
I owned a 09 Muscle. It was fantastic. I really like the LED turn and stop lights integrated into the fender plus the running/turning LEDs in the rear view mirrors plus the fat tire on the back. I even liked the muscle car like dual exhaust on it. I was a sport bike rider prior. I bought it used, rode it for 3 years and traded it in for $500 less than I paid for it originally. Somebody must want them. Although in Orlando and Pensacola, Fl I rarely saw another Vrod and only once saw another Muscle. Also the Vrod got more compliments than any other bike I have owned including the new one. Many people who couldn't tell a Harley from a Honda would comment on how they liked the look of it.
The Vrod was my transition bike into the HD family, although I was in my 40s when I got it.
HD is sponsoring and advertising UFC and MMA events. That will get the attention of the 18-30 year old crowd. HD just needs to keep a good line up of entry level bikes at a very good price to get people to buy them.
I bought my first Harley, a 1956 Hydra Glide, a week before I got married. I was 21. There was a succession of Harleys after that, and I was hooked to say the least. This was before Honda got in the market. In 1965, Harley came out with the first Electra Glide, with electric start. I bought one on time, and found out when I made the first payment, I had spent the grocery money! My wife had to take in ironing so we could eat.
I'm like the young man who doesn't buy the branded stuff. I never was into the "look" surrounding HD, but I admit I love it when I see a decked out touring rider. I just never cared that much about wearing everything Harley Davidson, nor could I see spending the money on it. More money for the motorcycle.
I'm barely 26. I bought my Harley cash for almost 10k. That's how much it means to me. I also own my home and my cage. I bought an HD for fun and lifestyle mostly. Being in the tattoo industry myself its hard to stay away from bikes and clubs at all. My father rode when I was growing up but got out when I was about 14. As an adult myself I can't believe it took me as long as it did to buy one. Every year was....the year. And it never happened till last year.
Needless to say. I am young and inexperienced. But I wanted it bad enough to follow through. Most of club I ride with is much older.
Edit: I should also add. HD advertising doesn't work on me. I personally cant stand what they think their image is. I don't own one thing HD except for my bike. I won't buy their pretty clothes or their unnecessary junk. Dealerships freak me out. I do all my own work.
Sounds to me like your the road to being a righteous scooter tramp or in the popular vernacular that gets beat around in here a real biker not the mid life crisis pretenders who make up the bulk of the buying public the last 25 years . Does my heart good to hear from upcomers like you .

Most I see not wearing the typical riding gear are unique like every other one wearing a plaid long sleeved shirt, baggy pants, and tennis shoes.
Now that we know people of different areas and ages dress differently, I'm also glad to see a bunch here where I work getting their first Harley in their 20-30s.
