This Guy's view of HD seems to differ from some posts i've read recently
On the other hand, this doesnt mean Harley-Davidson is failing with its outreach program. Its V-Rod -- targeting young male riders looking for performance -- has been well-received. And the 883 Low -- targeting women -- has enjoyed a similar reaction. Considering Harley-Davidsons strong marketing record and top-tier quality, it should only be a matter of time before the average customer age lowers. Quality always eventually rises to the top. And its not that Harley-Davidson is suffering at the moment -- it currently owns 50% market share of the motorcycle market in the United States.

Are you intimating that the average age of the average Harley owner pre-disposes us to a more current tail end of life scenario than other owners of other bike manufacturers? Sounds about right!
Around here, I'm seeing a lot of younger men and women riding Harleys. That may just be because I'm getting older myself, so everybody looks younger, but I don't think so.
I believe that there are a lot more young people who want a Harley, but can't afford one, YET. After all, I didn't get my first Harley until I was 36.
Yeah, we use to buy them young. I bought my first Harley (1942 45 flat head) when I was 16 years old. I traded a 37 Chevy, a Winchester single shot 12 ga., and $20.00 for it. I loved that old bike. Wish I still had it. They were much easier to buy back then as you can see. I never had much money so traded for most things.

I agree that there are a lot more younger people who want them. Around here, they're GETTING them! I know of about a dozen locals (between 20-30 yrs old) who all took out loans to buy their bikes. Maybe it's just me, but at that age, I barely had enough money for diapers & formula, let alone a payment on a completely unnecessary luxury like a Harley. It seems completely selfish to strap yourself & your new family at that age, especially living check to check. I just don't understand the logic.
I'm barely 26. I bought my Harley cash for almost 10k. That's how much it means to me. I also own my home and my cage. I bought an HD for fun and lifestyle mostly. Being in the tattoo industry myself its hard to stay away from bikes and clubs at all. My father rode when I was growing up but got out when I was about 14. As an adult myself I can't believe it took me as long as it did to buy one. Every year was....the year. And it never happened till last year.
Needless to say. I am young and inexperienced. But I wanted it bad enough to follow through. Most of club I ride with is much older.
Edit: I should also add. HD advertising doesn't work on me. I personally cant stand what they think their image is. I don't own one thing HD except for my bike. I won't buy their pretty clothes or their unnecessary junk. Dealerships freak me out. I do all my own work.

41 for me. In my 20s and 30s it made no sense in my budget to pay HD big bike prices. I was never interested in a sportster, sport bikes were cheaper, less expensive, faster and handled better when I was able to purchase in that price range.

HAH, these kinds of comments always make me shake my head. Maybe I'm looking at it the wrong way, but to me, it's like rooting for the Packers while condemning the organization & all of their swag, and refusing to buy a ticket to the game!

You are looking at it wrong. I did buy a ticket to the game (bike)but I'm not dressing up like a cheese head..
Just because I like their bikes doesn't mean I have to fit into their image of a rider. If I don't like their clothes and merchandise does that mean I can't like their bikes? No. Its all overpriced junk anyway. The style of almost everything they sell is majorly cheesy. It looks like 50 year old women designed it. Crappy flames, tribal, shiny **** everywhere. It seems to me they try way to hard to impress the nobody's. Because they know damn good and well most long time riders don't buy into it. They know their market. And I'm not part of that market.
