Tied a string to my coaster and have a clip on the end to go on the clutch lever, this way I can drop the coaster and maneuver it to position or near enough for my foot to get to it.
This is what I did as well. Many of the local sponsored bike rides/rallies/poker runs have the motorcycle lawyers giving out bandanas and coasters. A couple years back they had some plastic ones with a hole on one edge; I tied a bit of shot line through the hole and reused a snap hook off one of the dog's leads that she had eaten, and just clip it to my phone cradle.
When not being used, it's just stored in the left glove box along with about a dozen other pucks/coasters/kick-stand pads that I've picked up along the way (and continue to add to the collection any chance I get). In 95 degree weather, parking lots get really soft and when riding with friends I can just hand them out and not worry about getting them back.
Go to a bike show and get a freebie from the Personal Injury lawyers or Insurance Agents. Think I have half a dozen of them. HD sell them of course. Or use a flattened soda can then you can leave it behind.
Good suggestion. I've picked up several free stands over the years at shows.

I use an old license plate from a former car. It is thin enough that it never gets in the way in a bag, it is wide enough that it distributes the weight so you never have to worry about too wet grass and it is large enough that you don't need great aim.
