Syn 3 vs Fully Synthetic

OK, time for another oil thread...

I was cleaning up in my shop this afternoon and found one lonely un-opened quart of Syn 3 blended synthetic. I think HD now only sells SE fully synthetic Syn 3 (?)

Probably that quart of Syn 3 has been sitting on the shelf for a couple of years, just overlooked. Would there be any issue with mixing it with the fully synthetic oil in my next oil change?

Why not just dump it in the primary next time you change it out?

I wouldn't mix different oil (Synth & Blend), but you could use it in small engines (i.e. mower, snowblower, etc.). I found an old jug of HD oil & use it to lube my cyl's during winter storage. Couple of squirts in the plug holes and spin wheel in gear...gets cyl walls and rings lubed good for long winter nap.

There's no issue with doing it, they mix fine, but I would'nt. The dino portion of the blend won't last as long as pure synthetic if you go 5K between changes. Use it in your lawn mower.

Does it actually say "blended" on the label? I ask 'cause I do not remember HD ever marketing a blend, which is typically 90%/10%-dino/synth. I do remember plenty of discussion about Syn 3 being a Group III synthetic, which is considered a full synthetic even though it is formulated from dino oil. It is not a blend, but a hydro-cracked oil that is essentially processed until all the oil molecules are long-chain, just as Group IV or Group V molecules are.

At any rate, there isn't enough real-world difference between 'em to matter. Use it as you wish.

Lawn-mower...

It wont hurt anything to mix, but ideally i would not unless you're really desperate.
