bottom bolt buttoned up nice, but, top just gets finger tight but then just started spinning - that's how the top bolt acted before I put this new bolt in though.

I added some plumbers tape to it, and it seems to have helped.

If it turns out that the one bolt is causing the generator to pull off, I will just buy a replacement generator, I guess....

going to refill the oil to proper levels and give the bike a run tomorrow to see if the generator pops off or if I get any new leaks.

Sounds to me like a previous owner damaged the threads. You'll have that with the older bikes.

Sounds like a stripped thread to me. Are new generators expensive?

Longer bolt or helicoil if you don't want to spend the money for new , there's tons of used ones around if you want to dig just look hard at the holes for the same problem .

Don't know if there's one by you, but Sears hardware by me has a big section of nuts and bolts. Black, plated, stainless, metric, just about everything you might need. Including different grades. Worth a try if there's one around.,,

I usually hit up Ace hardware or HomeDepot for bolts and such - they generally have a ton of variety.

Heli-Coil might be the better option..... and thinking about it now, I should have some helicoils in my toolbox.... we'll see how it goes.

when you get your new bolts, drill holes thru the bolt head & saftey wire them, so they won't vibrate loose.
