Default Purchasing a new bike

Well here it is, I'm looking switching to a Harley in fact I will be switching not thinking about it its a certainty. I currently ride an R1 and looking a a wide glide. Since I've never purchased a Harley wanted some advice on the bike and what kinda deals seem reasonable. I got a quote for a 2013 midnight blure silver flames for 17, 600 he said he could probably get it down a grand. I've read some guys getting crazy deals and also that Harley won't drop much if anything off a bike. Any advice is appreciated and experience on dealing and on the bike in general. Love the look of the wide glide and want kind of an old school feel.

Find a used one probably in the 10k range with low miles....might already even have some mods done (if you want the mods that are done).

Last year I bought a new 2012 for $15,000 .
The 2013 bikes were out and it was the last 12 the dealer had .

Thanks for the replys. I'm not trying to rip off a dealer I'm just bad at negotiating prices usually if they throw out a price I don't like I will just say no thanks and not ask to negotiate. I feel I could be losing out on a potential deal but feel bad trying to get someone to drop the price on their product that I want. I will be shopping multiple places and unfortunately the color I want is in the blue and silver flames. I will continue to look at used bikes.

Do you pay sticker price on a new car?

You work for your money.. Make the salesman work too.. They won't budge much on a new bike but get the best deak you can. Also if you want that paint sceme and can afford it then get it. If not everytime you see one you'll wish you had..

Now's definitely the time to wheel/deal on the '13's b/c 14's are about to hit the floor. Squeeze every dime you can from this dealership and, whatever you pay, as long as you're happy...that's all that matters. Good luck!

Don't feel bad about negotiating with the salesman.
Don't feel bad about "ripping" the dealer off.

Do your homework, go into the dealer informed.
Don't let them BS you.
Get them as low as you can or walk.

They are smart businessmen.
They are not in business to lose money.
No matter what you buy the bike (or car) for, they will not sell it for less than what they plan to.

They will try to sell the bike (or car) for the highest price they can, you need to try to buy the bike (or car) for the lowest price you can.

At whatever price you get it for, they are not losing money.

Dealers usually won't budge much on the price of current year bikes, but may be flexible on freight and PDI charges. If you find a new previous year bike the dealer may drop a grand or two, and may also give you a credit toward parts or clothing. Once the 2014's are on the floor they will deal a bit on the 2013's and especially on any leftover 2012's.

Find a good price and ask other dealers to beat it. Shop around and you'll know when you've done the best you can do.

Ask for a free first service, 20% of parts/labor/merchandise for say 3 months, and a T shirt. They give you HOG membership but also ask for local HOG membership to be thrown in because you then get 10% off parts and merchandise for a year. Those things can sweeten the deal for you after the purchase.
