Default HD 100th advise...Please

Ok, I have been dragging my feet long enough. I have been wanting to go to Sturgis for some time and had a chance for Sturgis this year and did not go. So I decided that I would try and make the 110th and by the time I started looking into it seems everything has been booked. Well I am starting to have the feeling time is getting short for me to accomplish these trips so I have decided to go and wing it and just experience whatever happens, happens. I decided I will be camping and if so desire I will stay at hotels. I am completely equipped and am just looking for thoughts for what to expect for possible tickets to the events and possible best chances for lodging. I am hoping that traveling alone might open up possibilities. All input would be very much appreciated. Thanks

I would book lodging or camping in advance. The city is booked. Outlying areas probably are too. Check out the 110th camping thread or the 110 info thread for some possibilities.

With all the cities close to milwaukee, there is no way they are all full up. Just cause the Iron Horse in is full doesn't mean you can't find a room or tent space. Check State fair park, I believe the city of Milwaukee is also opening city parks to campers for the 110th.

No as of now no camping in Milwaukee COUNTY parks. The county board never passed it, and it was going to be for rv only. With that said you should be able to find camping in either Waukesha county, Washington county, Racine county or Kenosha county. All of those will put you with in an hour at furthest point to Milwaukee. Hotels may be tough and expensive. Check Milwaukee Craigslist under motorcycles and there are people renting rooms in their homes. Just get here and I am sure you will find a place.

This from a guy that used to live and work in Milwaukee; if I was going to that thing, I wouldn't stay at a place in Milwaukee. I would look elsewhere for accommodations. There are plenty of hotels between Milwaukee and Madison; some are right off the interstate, some a few miles from the interstate. By the way, Madison is an hour ride west of Milwaukee. You might also want to check out the Wisconsin DNR website and look up State Park camping in the general area. I've never camped in the southeast portion of the state, but Wisconsin has so many campgrounds dotting the landscape, there has to be some near there. One last thing, keep your wits about you. The city has exploded with violence in the last few weeks, much like Chicago. In the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel, it seemed like the city was averaging well over 20 shootings a week (not just guns being fired, but people actually being shot) and at least one murder a day in the month of August. Most of that is going on after hours on the north side, but not all of it.

Don't forget about the National Forest campgrounds. There's plenty in WI.
