Default Breakout Stage 1

Getting ready to do the Stage 1 upgrade on my Breakout. I decided to go with the Vance and Hines Big Radius and SERT. However, I am having trouble choosing the air cleaner. I know that the heavy breather is popular and would definitely flow more air, but I just do not like the look. At first I was searching for a round nostalgic performance intake with an exposed element, but I think I am going to stick to the stock cover with just the Screamin Eagle stage 1 set-up. Would I be ripping myself off by doing this? Are the round or oval performance intakes with the filter exposed better for performance? I am having the bike tuned on a dyno and want to ensure good gains. Thanks for the help.

Okay...I hated both the Big Radius 2-2 and the SE Heavy Breather at first but look what I have! And I'd do it all over again 100 times.

I picked the HB because if I was going to spend that much money, I wanted it to look like I changed the AC, not just the cover. True story, not 5 minutes after I left the shop, I pulled along side another rider and that's the first thing he said..."I see you have the Screaming Eagle Heavy Breather!" I just smiled!

Good Luck with your choice.

I've always been partial the the classic look of the S&S teardrop. Nothing looks better on a chopper IMO.

In all practical reality whichever high flow intake you choose will work well with the pipes and a proper tune doing a Stage 1. I'd get the look you want. There will be very little, if any, performance difference in the many intakes that are available.

If you were doing a Stage 2, 3 or 4 and we're looking for every single drop of power, then it might make a difference. Then you'd have the wrong pipes anyway. Just get what you like.
