Air Force changes PPE requirements
Oh, I follow the rules. Or get them changed. I am proud. In the end, I did get something changed for AD riders. Temp pass issued IF 1) you are a fully licensed rider AND 2) MSF course is scheduled AND completion is within 60 days. That was much better than having to park your bike at the gate.
If your problem with my comment is about the difference in PPE requirements ON BASE, you missed the point. I didn't say I didn't follow them. What is the point of a vest if I can (per the AFI) take it off outside the gate? And what is the point of a vest ON BASE if only AD have to wear it (civilians, retirees, dependents, etc are exempt)? Safety of the rider is the reason, right? THAT is why the AFI and supplements needed to change.
And if you have a problem with pointing out inadequate job knowledge, performance, and handling it in private, shame on you. I didn't embarrass him at the counter in the waiting area in front of others. I didn't throw a fit. I calmly asked to talk to a supervisor. I put the guy on the spot in front of his boss, not the public.
You see, I wasn't trying to fight the rules. Or bully someone to break them. I was following them. The visitor center CAN issue a temp pass. They sent me to Safety because it is Safety's base supplement. All I did was ask for a temp pass because the waiting list for the MSF course was two weeks out and it lasted two weeks. I wasn't new....a few years off road, 23yrs on road (license endorsement at 15yo). The Safety Rep copped an attitude and got on a power trip, even raising his voice at the counter. Tell me where that attitude fits into YOUR ideal NCO attributes?
That's when I did what any good NCO does. Talk to that person's boss. Let him know that his troop is swingin' his stick blindly WHILE not exactly knowing...or doing....his job, i.e., not identifying pocket bikes, mini-choppers,and the sort as meeting the definition per the DoD reg OR enforcing the AFI by permitting their use using BICYCLE helmets and not requiring the MSF Course. He tried using a 'less than 50cc' rule and couldn't provide a reference because it doesn't exist. He saw them as toys, while permitting their use in traffic. He never fully read the applicable AFIs or DoD references.
Wrong for mentioning easy, cheap, insignificant EPR/OPR bullets? LOL...everyone knows it
So, I'm wrong for thinking the vest rule was illogical? Now changed
Wrong for the Safety Rep's incompetence? I can't understand that one
Wrong for his boss correcting his attitude that will eventually get him a LOC or LOR? NCO responsibilities
Wrong for what exactly?
The thing to do is accomplish the research ahead of time and have it ready to show if necessary. Even better have him bring you his reg and you point it out for him. Show him that others know the reg better than he does. Maybe that motivates an airman to study a little and take pride in his or her job.
I don't normally get the pissy attitudes but maybe that's cause I'm a Capt. Or maybe its because I spent 15 years enlisted so I know how to interact the enlisted way. I would have asked for the supervisor as well but all I usually get is a bunch of 'yes sirs' and then puzzled looks as they go and ask their supervisor without me there.
When riding a MC, what is the first thing other driver's see's..
